Notice of Live Fire Training in Pacific, WA on November 26, 2019
The South King County Fire Training Consortium (SKCFTC) will be conducting LIVE FIRE TRAINING on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 1590 Thornton Avenue SW in Pacific from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The training site is located just east of HWY 167 between the 24th St East exit in Sumner and Stewart Road exit in Pacific. Smoke may be visible throughout the day with heavier smoke in the afternoon during the final burn down.
Live fire training is the use of a specially prepared structure that is ignited under controlled conditions to allow firefighters to train in a realistic environment. Furniture, appliances, carpet, linoleum and all other oil-based materials are removed prior to the training, leaving just the shell of the structure.
This training is being organized for SKCFTC Recruit Academy #8. Each of the 38-firefighter recruits will rotate through residential fire scenarios where they will gain valuable experience in fire dynamics, fire tactics and hose management. “This training is crucial in preparing new firefighters to serve the South King County community, it gives them the opportunity to experience fighting fire through realistic scenarios that may be encountered throughout their career,” said SKCFTC Battalion Chief Rick Cox.
The SKCFTC consists of 13 fire agencies from throughout South King County. It was formed in 2012 to allow agencies in South King County to pool their personnel and resources to deliver cost effective training and provide more consistency when agencies respond to emergencies together.
