A female resident and her dog were able to evacuate safely and will be able to stay in their home, thanks to efforts of VRFA firefighters on Thursday April 16. Crews managed to protected the home, located in the 1000 block of Algona Blvd. N., Algona, as well as other structures while also fighting fire on a garage, abandoned mobile home and RV. The garage and the vacant mobile home on the property were a total loss. The RV sustained moderate fire damage. An additional RV and mobile home nearby were protected from the fire.

At approximately 6:09 p.m., VRFA firefighters and mutual aid crews from South King Fire & Rescue responded to the residential fire in Algona. Shortly after firefighters arrived the fire was upgraded to a second alarm to bring in additional personnel and equipment. VRFA crews protected the main residence from fire, while additional firefighters worked to extinguish fires in a garage next to the residence, a vacant mobile home and an RV located on the property. Still more crews protected a nearby mobile home and RV.

One VRFA firefighter sustained a minor injury while fighting the fire and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The fire is under investigation.
